Carroll County Commission on Aging

The Carroll County Commission on Aging is a panel of 15 volunteer citizens appointed to rotating three-year terms by the Board of County Commissioners. The Commission on Aging acts as the advisory council to the Carroll County Bureau of Aging under 306 of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. In this role the Commission assists the elected officials and the Bureau of Aging in gathering public opinion, providing educational information and supporting senior related events and programs. These events include participation in the United Seniors Rally in Annapolis each legislative session, representation at the annual Seniors on the Go Expo each autumn, participation in educational and advocacy opportunities locally, in Annapolis and in Washington D.C., and appearances at events with a focus on the needs of the older adults in our community. As such, many Commission members are active in senior-related organizations at the local, state and national levels. This enables the Commission to have a large resource of information on key issues and their impact on Carroll County citizens and policies.

The Commission on Aging is comprised of residents from various communities throughout Carroll County. There are representatives from each of Carroll County's eight municipalities; Hampstead, Manchester, Mt. Airy, New Windsor, Sykesville (2), Taneytown, Union Bridge and Westminster (3). Additional members on the Commission represent Eldersburg and Finksburg as well as the Carroll County Health Department and a specialist in Nutrition. The Commission is led by a Chair with assistance from a Vice-Chair and numerous committees and area and special interest representatives.
