The Bureau of Facilities is the general contractor of the County, overseeing more than 6,000 acres
and forty buildings and related structures within the County. The Bureau consists of a professional
staff with a wide range of skills. Full-service maintenance is provided for air conditioning,
heating, plumbing, and electrical systems. Custodial services are provided by private contractors
with the exception of the County Office Building which is being performed in-house for the first
time this year.
In the past year, they have been involved in three large additions and renovations to the County
Office Building. The reconstruction of the new Storage/Concession Building at Sandymount Park,
along with a new electrical service, was completed by their staff. They remodeled and created
new offices in the Human Services area at the Citizen Services Complex. Also, another project
was the creation of new offices for the Election Board at the Multi-Service Building.
They recently entered into an Energy Performance Contract with Johnson Controls. This contract
will provide an overall approach to improve the infrastructure of the County's facilities, along
with reducing both energy and operational expenditures.
