Recently, the Sheriff’s Office implemented two strategic goals that focused on enhancing technology and became an organizational priority for the Administrative Services Bureau.
Using daily web page updates, new releases, a newsletter and presentations to community groups, Administrative Services personnel keep the community and employees informed of issues that impact them.
With the Carroll County Government’s Department of Technology Services, (DTS) providing hardware and network support to the Department of Sheriff’s Services, the Information Services Coordinator serves as official liaison with the DTS, focusing on coordination of Sheriff’s Services vast and growing information and records systems, including daily Web Page Maintenance, Mobile Data Terminal and cellular technologies, automation of the Sheriff’s Office Forms Control and Field Reporting System and automated information systems.
Further, Information Services became the focal point for the Sheriff’s Strategic Goals to; 1) Promote Public Safety Communications, and 2) Implement New Technologies that Enhance Service Delivery, when the agency partnered with state and local public safety leaders in pursuit of full grant funding for the purchase and installation of Mobile Data Terminals and an upgrade to the Emergency Communications Center Computer Aided Dispatch System.
Successful implementation of this strategy will utilize data over voice capabilities of the Capitol Area Wireless Integrated Network (CapWIN) to establish communications interoperability between Carroll County’s seven law enforcement agencies while providing each agency with a link to a county wide records management system for facilitation of incident and crime data interoperability locally, and with the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Region.
