Judicial Services Division
The Judicial Services Division of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office includes:
The Circuit Court Security Team is responsible for maintaining the overall safety of the Judiciary from the time they arrive at the courthouse to the time they depart for their residence. This also includes maintaining building integrity, safeguarding all who enter or leave the facility, and keeping a watchful eye on those prisoners transported from other detention facilities to stand trial. This trained team of professionals is assisted in the performance of their daily duties by court security officers, court bailiffs and the back up compliment of the sheriff’s office.
Similarly, the District Court Security Team works in combination with court security officers, court bailiffs, the Maryland Department of General Services, and the back up compliment of the Sheriff’s Office to assure the safety of citizens attending court. However, the primary responsibility of the Sheriff’s Office District Court Security Team is to assure the safe and orderly transport of prisoners to and from the court for attending trial.

The Court Security Unit is supervised by Sergeant Thomas Hoffa. A total of eight (8) Court Security officers handle the daily security for all of the courts in the main court house as well as the historic courthouse. Court Security is also responsible for the movement of all prisoners while at the court house awaiting trials. Court Security deputies will transport to the Detention Center any person ordered to serve confinement time.

The Court Security Unit is supervised by Sergeant Paul Nolte. A total of six (6) deputies and correctional officers handle the daily security for all of the courts in the District court house. District Court Security is also responsible for the movement of all prisoners while at the court house awaiting trials. Court Security deputies will transport to the Detention Center any person ordered to serve confinement time.
