Sheriff's Office investigating fatal collision involving bicyclist

Taneytown, Carroll County, Maryland; July 21, 2017 -----  On July 21st, 2017, at approximately 12:34 am, Carroll County Emergency Communications dispatched Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, as well as Fire and EMS crews from the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company, to Maryland Route 194 and Brown Road for the report of a personal injury accident involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival at the scene, responding Deputies found that a collision had occurred between a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck and a bicyclist. The bicyclist, identified as Harrision Thomas Earls, a 20 year old from Taneytown, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that both the vehicle, driven by Ty Schulte, a 24 year old from Littlestown, Pennsylvania, and the bicyclist were travelling Northbound on Maryland Route 194 at the time of the collision.

Members of the Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing this investigation. No further details are available at this time. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Corporal Miller at 410-386-5900.
